Music with Care
MedTracks
We are working with NHS Highland and the NHS Testbed in Scotland to study the feasibility of using our song-task-association platform to support people to take their medication regularly and on time.
The cost of medication non-adherence is a significant barrier to effective healthcare delivery, up to half of patients on long-term treatment do not adhere to their medication regimens the economic cost alone ranges from £300 million to £800 million per year.
Phase one of the product trial using a prototype app proved successful - Addressing the technical challenges of providing an innovative solution for individuals aged 40-55 who are living with delirium, confusion, and risk factors associated with dementia, to better manage their medications.
69% of the trial users responded to the song notifications and
56% said that the music had an impact on their adherence to their medications.
Phase Two is underway using the alpha MedTracks app in partnership with three GP surgeries in the Highlands and results will be circulated in Spring 2025.
LifeTracks
Your Life on Track
We have developed a prototype of the LifeTracks app. The LifeTracks platform leverages this powerful song-association and uses it to prompt us to carry out pre-selected tasks or goals. The LifeTrack song is able to ‘cut-through’ the clutter and ‘noise’ in our lives and help us recall the task, and get it completed. It also has the impact of raising our mood and helping us feel a sense of self.

Memorable Music Solutions
Enhancing memory through music since 2018 with innovative research and collaborative partnerships.
Memory Tracks
The Memory Tracks app helps stimulate memory, manage agitation, assist with care, and support important daily routines through song-task association for those living with dementia and their caregivers. By connecting memorable songs to necessary tasks through our simple app we can change behaviour, and make it much easier to give and receive care.
The cost of managing agitation in dementia care in the UK is significant, particularly in residential care settings. Agitation in advanced dementia increases annual care costs by approximately £10,242 per person, which represents about 30% of the total yearly health and social care expenses for this group. With around 311,730 care home residents living with dementia in the UK, approximately 40% of whom experience significant agitation, the total annual excess cost linked to agitation is estimated to be £435 million. Cambridge University Press & Assessment Dementia Researcher
More broadly, dementia care costs in the UK are expected to reach £42 billion in 2024, covering healthcare, social care, and unpaid caregiving. Agitation contributes substantially to these costs by increasing care needs, including additional staff time and interventions to manage symptoms. Addressing agitation effectively through targeted interventions could not only improve the quality of life for individuals with dementia but also alleviate some of the financial burden on care systems and families.
The Dementia Challenge
Dementia is a degenerative disease, it affects how the brain works, in particular to remember, think and reason. The steady deterioration of brain function causes a wide range of daily issues, such as anxiety, disorientation, anger, fear, irritability, depression, and withdrawal.
Song-Task Association
Music is an underused tool across health and wellbeing, despite its extraordinary therapeutic potential, and is rarely used at the point-of-care, where it can have the biggest impact. Using the Memory Tracks ‘song-task association’ platform we can direct the benefit to where it is most needed.
Music and the Brain
Music has a proven a powerful effect on the brain. Recent research shows that it helps in pain reduction, stress relief, memory, and brain injuries. Music builds long-term associative memories, often closely tied to emotions which can be more resilient to loss than other types of memory.
